Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev secured his initial title for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has had a torrid year, achieving just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in especial - led to him exiting of the top ten and finally separating with long-term trainer Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's initial championship after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from March of that year.

Victory also means the Russian has secured 21 victories at twenty-one different tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my children simultaneously, so to win a trophy is really nice," said ranked player the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive play style and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to wonder if his capacity to play at the top level was over.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to come to the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an improved serve.

He fought back from a break down in the first set against the tricky Moutet, winning 4 of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his maiden ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a third set.

The opponent saved four early chances in a tight final set before the Russian won the break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
